Friederike Zeit Narum
Friederike Zeit Narum is in love with clay since more than 40 years. Beside Bronze, Iron and concrete, has clay always been the main material. The fascination of the transforming a very plastic material into a hard, no longer malleable form, lies in the possibility of letting a spontaneous movement virtually “freeze”. No other material has this characteristic.
All sculptures are hand built, glazed and fired.
Presently arched-shaped objects are being created, strongly inspired by the Scandinavian landscape.
Whatever shape the artist gives her objects, we mostly realize looking at the preference for powerful and coloring glazes, often yellow, green, orange and red. Strong signals in the room.
She herself says about her work: “…also a constant dialog with architecture. It’s more about intuitive shaping, whereby long and valuable experiences surely play a role. I have a picture in mind and a vague idea of the direction. But during the work new questions and new thoughts come up. During this process my sculptures develop an independent personality, what makes me curious and creates a never ending dialogue between us.”

“My sculptures develop an independent personality, what makes me curious and creates a never ending dialogue between us.”
“I draw my sculptures with the greatest possible spontaneity into the space, so to speak as space-calligraphy. It is a matter of capturing the moment and making it visible, of dance, movement, lines.”
